What GCC advertisers get wrong about cost per lead

14 July 20266 min readClickBeyond Team

Cheap leads are easy. Qualified pipeline is the only number that survives a quarterly review.

Cost per lead is the easiest number to move and the least useful number to report. Loosen your targeting, widen your form, drop a lead magnet in front of a cold audience and the metric improves while the pipeline gets worse.

The number that actually matters

Every campaign should be judged on qualified pipeline created, not raw lead volume. That requires a definition of qualified that the sales side agrees with before the first ad goes live.

  • Define a qualified lead with the people who close deals, not the people who buy media.
  • Push the qualification result back into the ad platform so optimisation follows revenue.
  • Report cost per qualified opportunity next to cost per lead, every month.
  • Kill audiences that produce volume without meetings, even when the CPL looks great.
If nobody can name the campaign that produced last month's biggest deal, you are not measuring, you are guessing.

Once qualification data flows back into the platforms, budget stops chasing the cheapest form fill and starts compounding on the segments that pay.
